Are You In Love??

When you are together with that special someone When you are together with that special someone, you pretend to ignore
that person. But when that special someone is not around, you might look around
to find them.
At that moment, you are in love.

Although there is someone else who always makes you laugh,
your eyes and attention might go only to that special someone.
Then, you are in love.

Although that special someone was supposed to have called you long back,
to let you know of their safe arrival,
your phone is quiet.
You are desperately waiting for the call!
At that moment, you are in love.

If you are much more excited for one short e-mail from
that special someone than other many long e-mails,
you are in love.

When you find yourself as one who cannot erase all the
emails or SMS messages in your phone because of one message
from that special someone, you are in love.

When you get a couple of free movie tickets, you would
not hesitate to think of that special someone.
Then, you are in love.


You keep telling yourself, “that special someone is just a friend”,but
you realize that you can not avoid that person’s special attraction. At that
moment, you are in love.


While you are reading this post, if someone
appears in your mind,

Three beads of my rosary

I received a rosary of beads from a child one day. Touching a few beads, i gave them each a name: I called the first bead, Love. The bead whispered, “Give love, get loved.” There is the story of a seeker who wept openly at the mere sight of a hill, a mountain, a flower, or a river.

One day someone asked him: “Why do you cry?” He replied: “Looking at these icons of nature I hear a voice which says, ‘Do not be thankless! You have forgotten the Creator of the Universe. The voice rattles my soul and so I weep’.” That call is for every one of us. Do not be ungrateful, for the Universe is beautiful and we are lucky to be part of it.

Love binds us with silken threads. We get bonded; we get linked with persons we love. Love unites. Loving the Supreme, you are united with Him for you will feel God’s presence within you and around you. When you love God, you will learn to love others, and your life will be built on the foundation of love.

A 31-year-old man was trying to climb a steep hill. He kept falling. Each time he picked himself up and tried, again and again. Undaunted, he continued to climb. He slipped down seven times, before finally reaching the hilltop, On reaching the top, he picked up the wounded man lying there and carried him to a hospital, and got him treated.

People asked him, “How much have you suffered for this man! You put your life in danger! Suppose you had fallen down and died? Why did you have to do this? Do you know this man?”

The young man explained: “This man is no relative of mine, neither is he a friend. He is an acquaintance whom I met at a satsang . For the sake of my guru, I began to love him. It is for the love of my guru that I suffered. It is for this love that I put my life in danger.”

I called the second bead Humility. It says: “Give up pride.” Just as eating food and drinking water are necessary for living, it is necessary to practice humility. One has to pay a price for giving up ego. And that price is, to be in fellowship with the devotees of the Lord, and to receive their blessings. How foolish it is to say, “I did this, I did that!” This ‘ego-intoxication’ must go! For what am ‘I’ but a flickering candle that at the dawn will die!

The third bead is Shanti. It says: “Don’t be angry. Keep your cool.” Anger is harmful. One mother got angry because her child was troubling her while she was working. She admonished the child, but the child continued to play mischief. The enraged mother picked up the child and threw him down. Every heedless act is sinful, but there is much more irrationality in anger.

Whenever you become angry, recite a mantra like “ Hare Ram, Hare Krishna ” 10 times. If your anger is beyond control, recite the mantra 100 times. That ought to cool you down. With love, humility and a peaceful disposition, your path can only become more pleasant and less difficult.

What we really need is lots of love

We sometimes think: why are we so greedy for land and property, why are we motivated by political desires?

Sometimes it’s hard to love like this. We should not detest the diseased. We should try to rid the disease because all living creatures are connected with one another. If we cannot love the violent, cruel-hearted, hateful and the envious, then we cannot love anyone.

Just as iron is naturally attracted to a magnet, the soul of every living being is naturally attracted to God, who is like a supreme magnet. Then why do so many engage in ungodly activities? Just as a piece of iron covered by dust or rust is not attracted to a magnet, the soul covered by lust, greed, envy, pride, anger and illusion is not attracted to God.

So, people are diseased, but we should love the one who is suffering from this disease. People are ruining their lives because their pure consciousness is obscured by illusion and ignorance. When it is night, it is difficult to see what is what, who is who, where we are. Ignorance means you do not know. Ignorance is due to darkness, but as soon as the sun rises, everything is revealed as it is. Similarly, when the light within us is allowed to shine, all ignorance is dispelled.

The sun of knowledge, God, is within all of us. Then why are we in darkness? Simply because we cannot perceive His presence. When there are dark clouds, you cannot see the sun. So the cloud of ignorance, which is the root disease which creates all the symptoms in the form of unwanted activities and thoughts, is covering the pure light of the Divine within us.

Yoga is a means to dissipate this cloud and allow the sun of love, the sun of peace, the pure light of the divine presence of the Lord within our hearts to shine and give light to everyone. The supreme occupation of all humanity is to give light to the world, not to contribute to the darkness. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

It is the duty of each one of us – it is the highest expression of love – to purify our own hearts. If you do not have something, how can you give it to others? You can only give what you have. What we need is not more technology, not more scientific research. This world doesn’t need more food. There’s plenty of food, but it’s being dumped in the ocean or buried under the ground. What we need is love. If we do not have love, what can we give? We will simply remain a part of the problem.

Therefore, purification of the heart is the divine responsibility of each one of us. When our hearts are pure like the sun, love will emanate in all directions for everyone. Does the sun discriminate that this is a dragonfly, this is a dog, this is a Native American, this is an Indian, this is a businessman, and this is the president of the United States? No.

The pure heart shines love all around in the same way as the sun. When we purify our hearts, we transcend all boundaries of sectarianism, all boundaries of selfishness, and we can be the true servant, well-wisher and friend of every living being.
